They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile. They created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. This was extremely innovative in the 1920's. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. These bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. Authenticity is assured as both are inscribed with the Marion Bronze shopmark MB on the rear bottom corner. Each bookend stands 8 1/8" tall, 5" wide, 4 1/2" deep and weighs 5 lbs. This was made circa 1945 by the Marion Bronze Company. The back of the bookend is a bookcase filled with volumes. The Professor is sitting on a ladder stool with a book on his lap flanked by books on the floor in front and on both sides of him. This huge, heavy set of electroformed bronze polychromed bookends feature an old professor seated reading a book.
